I have been working on these trying to perfect them. I will update this with any improvements and I am always open to your suggestions! If you are trying to lose weight and you don't exercise at least an hour a day I don't recommend these.
In a food processor:
1 can of drained and rinsed low salt black beans
1/2 cup of maple syrup
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 small ripe avocado or 1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp. aluminum free baking powder
Blend until smooth. Be patient.
Add water 1 Tbsp. at a time if the mixture becomes to thick.
Stir in nuts if you like them
Bake 350 for 30 minutes.
Let cool and if you can wait put them in the fridge overnight. They are fudgier the next day.

Save-A-Lot Review
I was in Mount Morris (NY) today and stopped at their only grocery store, Save-A-Lot. I needed to pick up some frozen and fresh veggies and fruit. I enjoy seeing all the local fresh seasonal produce this time of year.
I have never been to this grocery store before and I was dismayed. They had an extremely limited amount of frozen veggies and the only frozen fruit available was a 1 pound bag of strawberries. The fresh produce was far from it! The only thing somewhat locally grown was the watermelon.
Two big thumbs down for this place on the Nunda Nutritional Counseling reviews.
I did stop at Jane's Pantry and picked up some buckwheat and some pumpkin seeds.
What you do and how you shop does make a difference. You wallet speaks louder then you think!

Medicine Doesn't Work
We make ourselves sick on the foods we eat and then spend billions of dollars on massive amounts of over the counter and prescription medications and other "health products" to try to counter act the negative effects of our processed unhealthy diets.
Medicine can not cure or reverse preventable overweight related and chronic diseases.
A healthy lifestyle and diet can.
With all the problems inflicted on us from our unhealthy diets we still want to eat the crap. Addiction is a curious thing.

Cook With Cast Iron
Nonstick Pans Bad For Your Health?

EWG ( Environmental Working Group) finds heated Teflon pans can turn toxic faster than DuPont claims.
I just came across an article on EWG's website shows that Teflon pans can easily reach temperatures that releases toxic chemicals.
The article reads: "For the past fifty years DuPont has claimed that their Teflon coatings do not emit hazardous chemicals through normal use. In a recent press release, DuPont wrote that "significant decomposition of the coating will occur only when temperatures exceed about 660 degrees F (340 degrees C). These temperatures alone are well above the normal cooking range."
Recent studies shows that cookware can reach these temperatures, and higher within 2-5 minutes, and that this triggers the release of some seriously toxic chemicals. The toxic chemicals start being released at 446 degrees F.
And if you've got a stove thats "out of the ordinary hot", at 1000 degrees F, non-stick coatings break down to a chemical warfare agent known as PFIB, and a chemical analog of the WWII nerve gas phosgene.
The EWG writes that the government has not assessed the safety of non-stick cookware. As a result of the new data showing that non-stick surfaces can reach toxic temperatures within 2-5 minuetes, EWG has petitioned the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to require that cookware and heated appliances bearing non-stick coatings must carry a label warning of the hazard associated with the use of non-stick pans (Read the Full Article).

So what pans are the safest and best to use? Celebrity chef Emeril has just launched a new Cast Iron product line.
We also found many other sources that recommend old cast iron cookware, these may actually even improve your health. I think it's a great idea to reuse those old pans your parents or grandparents left you. The only thing you have to remember, is to season your pans properly (tips on how to season).

Bowl Food
There are a lot of people who just aren't cooks and they fall pray to pre-packaged crap food. When you are looking to get healthy and change your life through nutrition it is very difficult and time consuming to teach yourself how to cook healthy. But actually it is easier since you are eliminating all the junk.
Easy, high nutrient, low calorie, filling lunch:
Take a bowl and fill it 1/2 way with frozen mixed veggies (I like corn, peas, beans & carrots).
microwave it until it's thawed and just getting warm.
Add low or no salt beans, as much as you want (I like refried beans)
Add salsa, your favorite kind (no junk added)
Microwave until warm
It is so good and filling!
Sometimes if I've been exercising hard I will add leftover brown rice or potatoes.
*Make sure that the bowl you use is BPA free

Jane's Pantry Mount Morris, NY Review
I am very pleased to see Mount Morris NY revitalizing itself. It's great to see all the people strolling down the street checking out all the newly renovated stores and eateries.
I've been interested in stopping by Jane's Pantry hopefully to find a place close to home that offers some natural food choices. It's a quaint old fashioned styled store that's a treat to walk into. There's lots of variety of dried goods and confections, unfortunately it wasn't the health food store I had in mind. They do have a nice selection of flours and grains that will make me a regular customer but make sure you read their labels if you want to avoid the chemically processed items.
The young man that waited on us (Mykle Beck) was handsome friendly and very well informed on the products. I appreciate the kind service and attention to detail.
I highly recommend visiting Jane's Pantry, stores like this are unique and I would love to see it thrive. Maybe if we keep asking and shopping there they will start stocking even more healthy options.
